Minimum Education Requirement: Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine, Master of Science in Epidemiology or Master of Public Health (DVM, MSE or MPH)

If that community is an Air Force base, the effect on our force readiness can be quite serious. As an Air Force Public Health Officer, your mission will be to prevent, reduce and control the incidents of communicable diseases amongst Air Force personnel at home and abroad. It may seem like a small task to some, but keeping every Airmen in peak health is key to our ability to defend the nation.
Career Tasks
- Apply preventive and public health techniques to reduce and control the incidence of communicable diseases and occupational illnesses both in the United States and overseas
- Promote public health principles through a variety of methods to include monitoring of disease trends, food safety practices and sanitation levels in public and food service facilities
- Daily duties could include preventive medicine, communicable disease control, advising commanders on military public health issues, directing food programs and managing contamination control programs
