Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner

Minimum Education Requirement: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Nursing from a school accredited by the NLN or CCNE

Today’s Airmen face some unique stresses and mental challenges. As a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP), you’ll help them face and overcome these while you gain valuable experience unavailable in civilian practice. And since you’ll enter the Air Force as an officer you’ll have the immediate respect of both your peers and your patients.

Career Tasks

  • Provide comprehensive psychiatric mental healthcare to the adult military population, their family members and retirees between the ages of 18 and 65
  • Interface and collaborate with other professionals to ensure appropriate and coordinated multidisciplinary patient evaluation and treatment
  • Function independently and in collaboration with credentialed health providers
  • Serve as a role model and consultant to staff in the provision of psychiatric care, education and research
