The Air Force operates a global healthcare system that ranges from regional clinics to trauma one medical centers. Keeping these facilities up and running is the responsibility of Health Services Management specialists. Admitting patients, preparing staffing plans, maintaining records and ensuring inventory readiness are just some of the many things you can be called on to do. It may seem like a small job, but when you consider the Air Force has over 300,000 Airmen and their families posted around the world, having topnotch people making sure they get the care they need is crucial.

Career Tasks

  • Provide administrative support to the entire hospital staff
  • Complete various forms, research publications, draft and type letters and complete reports
  • Initiate, maintain, file and safeguard inpatient and outpatient medical records
  • Interview patients for admission and discharge purposes, verify their eligibility for medical benefits and assist in providing for patient accommodations on the inpatient unit
  • Use medical computer systems to prepare written correspondence and operate programs concerning staffing, budgeting, patient scheduling and accounting
  • Collect and account for charges for hospitalization, maintain patients’ valuables and assist in arranging for aero medical evacuation or medical care from civilian sources
