AIR FORCE ACADEMY
The prestigious Air Force Academy gives students a high-quality, cost-free education in exchange for their commitment to serve in the Air Force. In order to attend the Air Force Academy, you must be nominated for appointment by a U.S. Congressman, Senator or the Vice President of the United States. The Academy gives you instructions to help with the nomination process.
It’s best to begin preparations while in junior high school to plan and prepare for your high school academic course choices, as well as start your physical fitness training. Both activities can put you a step ahead of other applicants.
The LEAD Program is an ongoing effort to give our best and brightest Airmen the opportunity to excel by offering them appointments to the U.S. Air Force Academy and Academy Prep School (a 10-month program designed to prepare you for the Academy). The program asks Unit and Wing Commanders to nominate highly qualified Airmen with officer potential. There are 85 slots reserved for direct appointment and 50 slots reserved for the Academy Preparatory School.
